78% of Americans Are Now Familiar With Podcasting
This is an estimated 222 million people, an increase of 10,000,000 in one year — a 4.72% rise.
57% of Americans have listened to podcasts.
This is an increase of 55% in 2020, and 51% in 2019, respectively. This means that approximately three quarters of people who are familiarized with podcasts have actually listened.
Podcast listeners have grown by 29.5% over three years
In 2018, 44% of Americans aged 12 and older had listened, compared with 57% in 2021.

Hard-core podcast listeners can alter this average. 40% of weekly podcast listeners only listen to 1-3 podcasts per semaine, while 19% listens to 11 or more podcasts. Listeners listen to more podcasts each week than in 2020, when 51% of listeners only listened to 1-3 podcasts per semaine.
Nearly a quarter of Americans now have “Smart Speakers” installed in their homes
Amazon has led significant growth in smart speaker ownership. Between 2020 and 2021, smart speaker ownership increased by 22%. Smart speaker ownership is increasing, which gives owners more options to listen to podcasts from home. Sales of at-home entertainment devices such as smart speakers have increased over last year.
